School Uniform reminder.
Tue Apr 26 09:54amKia Ora,
We hope all our students are having a good break and will be recharged and ready to go for a positive Term Two.
With just under a week to go until we are heading back to school, it is timely to send a reminder about our uniform expectations at OAS. This will ensure that families have time to pick up any items you may need before the term starts.
Wearing the correct uniform is an important part of how we show pride in our school and demonstrate our school values. It is a visible way of demonstrating our school whakatauki “He waka eke noa” (we are all in the same waka together).
We have attached some posters to remind families of our uniform requirements. Please ensure your child has the correct uniform ready to go from the start of Term Two.
When your child cannot wear a correct uniform item (e.g. wet jumper, broken shoes etc.), please send in a note and we can provide a short-term uniform pass until this can be resolved. When we can, we will replace the non-uniform with a suitable uniform item for the day.
Thank you for your support in ensuring our school and students are showing our school motto of ‘being the best we can – no limits!

Home learning update
Fri Apr 08 12:30pmKia ora whaanau,
I am happy to say we are going to make it to the end of the term with everyone back on site. From Monday all students are welcome back to onsite learning. It has been a very challenging term with COVID and we absolutely appreciate the flexibility and support the community has shown, while we tried to keep the school open and running as much as possible. OAS sends a big thank you to our incredible relievers who have supported us over this time, without them we would not have been able to keep going.
We look forward to seeing our students on Monday, have a great weekend.
Ngaa mihi

We also ask that you continue to monitor for symptoms particularly in students in Years 5 to 10. If your child shows any symptoms please keep them home and get them tested.
We will review all year levels Monday once we have confirmed staffing for the week.
We really appreciate the support the community has shown in adapting to the ever changing environment that COVID is creating.

Mon Mar 28 08:32amKia ora Whaanau,
Over the weekend we have seen a rise in cases in Years 1-6. Please watch your children closely for symptoms. Children symptoms are vomiting, scratchy throat, headache, runny nose, and fever. If your child presents with any of these please keep them home and get them tested. We will continue to do visual checks each morning and students showing the symptoms will be sent home. Fri Mar 18 03:14pmHome Learning Roster for next week
Thu Mar 17 05:53pmWe are continuing to adapt to COVID in the community and the ever-changing status of this, which is causing us to have significant staffing shortages/complexities. Unfortunately, due to staffing shortages in particular areas of the school, we need to continue with home learning in certain Year groups for the remainder of this week.
For students under the age of 14 who have no supervision at home for their rostered home learning days we will continue to provide onsite supervision for those that require it. This will not be a student’s normal timetabled classes/teachers.
For the next week, on Monday 21st, Tuesday 22nd and Wednesday 23rd March we are asking the following groups to work from home:
Year 9 and 11 students
For Thursday 24th and Friday 25th March we are asking the following group to work from home:
Year 10 students
The decision to keep these students learning from home has been made due to the coverage of absent staff and the classes needing to be covered each day. We will be ensuring that appropriate home learning is provided for all the students affected.
We appreciate your support with this and thank you for the steps that you are taking at home to keep our community safe.
Reduced Canteen Hours
Tue Mar 15 10:11amDue to the significant drop in student numbers while we are going through this difficult period at school, the canteen is going to temporarily reduce the opening time to Break 1 only. The canteen will still be open and students can buy their lunch and snacks, but it will not be open during Break 2.
We apologise for this inconvenience and we will let you know when we are back up and running with the full service for both breaks.

In order to ensure that you are not missing any vital communications please check your junk or clutter email folders.
We will continue to send out messages across our communication channels using the School Facebook page, Kamar emails and the School App.
Kind Regards,

Home Learning roster this week.
Mon Mar 14 11:09amWe are continuing to adapt to COVID in the community and the ever-changing status of this, which is causing us to have significant staffing shortages/complexities. For students under the age of 14 who have no supervision at home for their rostered home learning days we will continue to provide onsite supervision for those that require it. This will not be a student’s normal timetabled classes/teachers.
For the next 4 school days, from Tues 15th to Fri 18th March we are asking the following groups to work from home:
All of Year 7 and 8 students
Year 12 and 13 students
The decision to keep these students learning from home has been made due to the absent staff and the classes needing to be covered each day. We will be ensuring that appropriate home learning is provided for all the students affected.
We appreciate your support with this and thank you for the steps that you are taking at home to keep our community safe.
Reminder: Non-uniform day tomorrow. Bring your gold coin to support the Maadi cup team.
Thu Mar 10 06:22pmLearning from Home Roster for Years 7-13.
Wed Mar 09 02:24pmWe are continuing to adapt to COVID in the community and the ever-changing status of this, which is causing us to have staffing shortages/complexities. We do have a small number of cases that are across the school, however we are finding that most of the notified cases were not at school during their infectious period hence the small number of cases we are seeing at present. This is good news and shows that the community is doing a great job of staying home when sick and isolating with household cases. Unfortunately, due to staffing, we are now at the stage where we will need to move to a rostered timetable for onsite and at home learning in Years 7-13. For students under the age of 14 who have no supervision at home for their rostered home learning days we will continue to provide onsite supervision for those that require it. This will not be a student’s normal timetabled classes/teachers.
For the next 3 school days we are asking the following groups to work from home:
Thursday: Room 13 and Room 15 homeroom classes (Mr Lang and Mrs Harwood), Year 12, and Year 13.
Friday: Year 10, Year 12, and Year 13
Monday: Room 13 and Room 15 homeroom classes (Mr Lang and Mrs Harwood), Year 9, and Year 11.
The decision to keep these students learning from home has been made due to the coverage of absent staff and the classes needing to be covered each day. We have tried to keep it balanced but it is not always possible. We appreciate your support with this.
TK 3 has broken down at Te Kohanga School. TK 2 is completing TK 3’s run so will be running slightly late.
Wed Mar 09 08:14amYear 9-13 update
Mon Mar 07 02:37pmKia ora Whaanau,
Thank you for your patience with Year 9 and 10 working from home. Tomorrow we would like all Year 12 and 13 students to work from home for Tuesday so that Year 9 and 10 can return. From Wednesday onwards all students will be able to be back on site attending lessons. Thank you so much for your support over this time it is greatly appreciated.

Update for Years 9-13
Fri Mar 04 03:22pmKia ora Koutou,
Due to our staffing situation we will continue to keep Year 9 and 10 learning from home on Monday. Dependent on the information we have Monday afternoon we will either have everyone back on site Tuesday or we will move to a balanced home learning roster to ensure all students in Years 9-13 have time learning onsite. Thank you for your support and patience as we navigate this ever changing environment.
BASKETBALL registrations are open NOW and close 25 March.
Thu Mar 03 12:19pmIf your child wants to play basketball for the school in term 2-3, please register them HERE
This is for years 5-8 and Secondary schools year 9-13
Libelle has contacted us this morning to say that the canteen will be closed today.
Tue Mar 01 08:19amCOVID update
Tue Mar 01 08:06amKia ora whaanau,
This message is to advise our community that due to current circumstances that are creating a staffing shortage, we will be asking all of our Year 9 and Year 10 students to continue their learning from home for Wednesday and Thursday this week. (Reminder Friday is a Teacher Only Day)
All students can access their learning through our standard learning platforms.
We are predicting that staffing will become a health and safety issue over the coming weeks. However we are doing our best to ensure continuity of learning for all.
Thank you to our community for their proactive support in reducing the spread of COVID, as we manage this new challenge together, staying home if you have symptoms or positive cases in your household is the best thing you can do to stop the spread.
We are required to still report cases to the Ministry of Education COVID response team each day. When you email me to let me know please include the date of the test and the type of test in your email.
If your family is isolating and you need any help, please get in contact, we may be able to arrange support through our contacts.
If you have any concerns or questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with me.
Stay safe,
Ngaa mihi
