Nau mai, haere mai ki te Kura Takiwā ō Onewhero. A very warm welcome to Onewhero Area School, a place where we strive to be the best we can be, where no limits are placed on the potential of our young people to thrive and succeed. At Onewhero Area School students are supported by a strong Board of Trustees, staff and community to discover their strengths and talents and develop into young people of good character. Students who attend here are given opportunities to participate in an education that encompasses the whole person including academic, sporting, cultural and other pursuits. Our core values as expressed in the school charter are; Purpose – Ako, Character – Mahi ngā Tahi, and Community – Whanaungatanga. These can be seen as you walk around the school and see students engaged in purposeful learning activities, showing leadership or just cooperating together in the playground. A feature of the school is the positive interaction between junior, middle and senior school students. I would invite anyone interested in exploring the school further to contact me for a tour. We would love to show off our fantastic school!
Ngā mihi nui ki ā koutou

Due to the forecast being terrible for tomorrow, we have made the decision to have athletics on Wednesday this week.
Students can come to school in their House colours and need to go to their home room at 8.50am.
*9am events will begin with boys on track and girls on field events.
Break at around 11.30am and then boys on field events and girls on track
Unfortunately, the weather has not lifted like we had hoped and we will not be able to go ahead with Year 9-13 athletics this afternoon.
Looking ahead to next week – the weather forecast for Tuesday is not looking great either. As this is a long term forecast and we all know how changeable weather is in NZ – we will keep Tuesday as our first option, however we will add Wednesday as our second option. Let’s hope we get a break in the weather!
We will send confirmation out to the community on Monday afternoon.
Thank you for your patience as we try and find a suitable Rain Day!
Whole school Athletics Day POSTPONED for today sorry whaanau!
We will hold the Rain Day as Tuesday at this stage but we are still hopeful that the weather will clear and we can get through Year 9-13 athletics events this afternoon. We will make a call on this at around 11.30am, as events will need to start at 12.
Please can Year 9-13 students wear uniform, but bring their House colours/athletics gear with them in case.
Ngaa mihi koutou
We are hoping tomorrow’s weather is going to better than expected and we will run Athletics Day as normal –
*9am events will begin with boys on track and girls on field events.
Break at around 11.30am and then boys on field events and girls on track.
IF the weather isn’t great, for safety and enjoyment purposes we will be making a call at 8am to postpone the days events. This will be communicated through Facebook and School App. We realise that students would have left home already and this is OK for them to be in House colours for the day.
Our rain day is Tuesday 31st October.
If the weather clears up in the afternoon we will try to get our Seniors (Year 9-13) through their events because they begin study leave next Wednesday.

TK3 is now leaving school within the next 5 minutes as the bus has been fixed. The students remaining at school will be put on the bus to start the route home.
Murphys has just been in contact with the school. They are now able to send a replacement bus that will arrive at school in approximately 30 mins. If you still wish to pick up your children please do so by coming to the Health Room (Room 33).
TK3 has broken down at school. Murphys are sending a mechanic and estimate that the bus run will be delayed by about an hour. All students are being supervised in the Health room.

The curriculum at Onewhero is wide and varied. If you have questions about the nature of the learning in our school, please contact the classroom teacher of the deputy principal responsible for curriculum.
Due to the Covid19 Pandemic and the travel restrictions we have seen a drop in the number of international students attending Onewhero Area School. As the global situation settles and border restrictions ease we expect this important aspect of our school to increase.
We use our Newsletter, School App and Facebook as primary communication tools. Please make sure that you connect with us through one of these platforms. If you would like support with any aspect of this please contact the office – office@onewhero.school.nz
Culture and sport are significant aspects of life at our school. Our dedicated sports coordinator ensures a huge variety of sports options are available to our students. If you have questions about this please contact Anke van Dike – a.vandijk@onewhero.school.nz
Our music and drama programmes include after school drama clubs and productions.
At Onewhero Area School we welcome feedback and parent engagement. If you have any questions or concerns please contact us so we can work together towards a solution.
