ONEWHERO AREA SCHOOL - 3rd November 2023

Principal's Message:

Kia ora e te Whaanau,

It's been an eventful fortnight at OAS, with wild weather dominating the discussions. We're hoping for a return of the sun and clear skies in the days to come.

This week marked the final week for our seniors as they embark on their exam leave. We want to congratulate them on their hard work and dedication throughout this year. We wish them all the best in their upcoming exams. We especially would like to acknowledge our graduating class of Year 13’s. Thank you for your contribution to our school and the leadership you have shown this year. We wish you all the best for your future endeavors and look forward to hearing about your future successes.

The rest of the school is abuzz with final assessments for the year. Our Year 10 students are currently working hard on their NCEA co-requisite assessments, a crucial step in their educational journey. Meanwhile, our students in Years 3-9 are participating in PATs (Progressive Achievement Tests) for reading and mathematics. These assessments help us track their progress and provide valuable insights for further improvement.

Despite the unsettled weather and multiple postponements, we managed to successfully host our much-anticipated Athletics Day. Like the sun, our students' enthusiasm and sportsmanship shone through, making it a day to remember. We're proud of all the participants and their commitment to the event.

A quick reminder that November 17th is a Teacher Only Day at OAS. Our dedicated staff will be hard at work, collaborating with the PB4L (Positive Behavior for Learning) team. The focus of the day will be on supporting students in tier two (students who need individual or small group support) and planning for the year ahead. This day is crucial in our ongoing efforts to provide the best possible education for our students. For more information on PB4L please see the following link https://pb4l.tki.org.nz/PB4L-School-Wide

We hope you have a great weekend,
Rebecca Bills
